How to Win Against PPC Click Fraud
The recent high profile court case involving Google AdWords and alleged click fraud has filled many online marketers with suspicion. But as an advertiser using Pay-Per-Click search engines there is still plenty you can do to keep your campaigns running successfully.
No pay-per-click advertiser wants to pay for fraudulent clicks. Including me. But I know that no matter how hard the search engines try to detect it, there will always be some level of fraudulent activity, even if it is the owner of a small web site clicking on advertisements on his own site.
So what if a small percentage of clicks are invalid! At least you are still paying mainly for measurable results. Compare this to television or newspaper advertising where you pay by the second or by the inch, regardless of whether anyone sees your advertisement or takes any action after viewing it.
Once you accept that some level of click fraud is to be expected, you can get on with the task of addressing the issue wisely. So how can you be certain you're not going to lose big time and go into the red on your campaigns?
The solution to succeeding despite fraudulent click activity is to manage your advertising campaigns like any other professional in the marketing industry. Here are several aspects of your advertising campaigns you need to stay on top of.
1. Use only reputable PPC search engines.
I recommend advertising mainly with the larger, more reputable search engines such as Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN AdCenter. These are the big three as I’m writing this, but depending upon when you are reading this, these may have changed. I have experimented with many other PPC search engines and I have been generally disappointed. Traffic quality tends to be poor and I guess there is less effort at fraud detection. If you want to experiment be sure to run small test campaigns first to check the 'integrity' of the traffic.
2. Monitor your campaigns regularly.
You should check your campaigns every day. I do. And if I am going to be away from the internet for a day or two, I ensure that my daily campaign limits are set at an acceptable risk level. If you are familiar with your usual daily statistics, you will have a greater chance of spotting any spike in activity that may be due to click fraud.
3. Know your conversion ratio.
What is your campaign's conversion ratio? You should know how many click-throughs you need to generate a sale. This might change from month to month and drastic swings may be an indication of click fraud.
4. Calculate your conversion cost.
Multiply your average cost per click by the number of clicks required for a conversion. This calculates your conversion cost.
5. Ensure conversion cost is less than revenue.
Ensure your conversion cost remains less than the revenue you make per conversion. And don't forget to allow for the percentage of orders that cancel.
6. Make changes when necessary.
When a campaign is no longer bringing in a decent profit over and above the costs, make changes. You might reduce your click fees, or change the wording of your advertisement to focus more closely on serious purchasers.
This is not rocket science. It's just good business sense. I hate click fraud and I’ll applaud every time steps are taken to reduce it. But I also know there will always be some level of click fraud. And whether it is 2% or 20% what I am really concerned about is whether I can continue to run my campaigns profitably.
If you stay on top of the vital statistics I mention above, you will be able to win despite click fraud and stay well ahead of the game.

Get Cheaper Google AdWords Traffic
There’s sometimes a lot of hype surrounding how you can get Google AdWords traffic more cheaply. And I know people who have spent a lot of money on a guide from a so-called marketing guru only to discover that the amazing traffic techniques were really not so incredible at all.
Leaving the hype aside, here are four ‘down-to-earth’ techniques that will enable you to obtain cheaper traffic from almost any of your Google AdWords campaigns.
1. Combine an Increase in Keywords with a Lower Bid
One of the best ways to get more traffic from your Google AdWords campaigns is to add more keyword phrases in conjunction with lowering your pay-per-click bids. By doing this you can end up drive much more traffic through your campaign at a lower price per visitor.
Make sure that the new keyword phrases you add are still very relevant. I bet you can still find plenty more relevant keywords if you think carefully. Many advertisers initially set up a new campaign with a bunch of keywords to test it out, and then they forget to come back later and add more relevant keyword phrases. You can find many more relevant keywords using the free software, Good Keywords, or even Google’s own Keyword Tool. I like Good Keywords’ Phrase Builder as it enables you to build lists of hundreds of keyword phrases in seconds.
2. Use Phrase or Narrow Match
Try using phrase match or narrow match for your keyword phrases. The reason you should try this is that narrower keyword phrases do not always trigger the same minimum bids at AdWords and therefore you can get traffic cheaper.
Often when I’ve been unwilling to pay the minimum bid on broad match for a keyword phrase, I have been able to get it showing quickly by using phrase or narrow match.
The best thing about this technique is that your traffic is will be even more targeted because of the matching so it will most likely convert better, and all the time it costs you less than the broad match would have
To add a keyword phrase with phrase matching put quotes around it like this:
“keyword phrase”
To add a keyword phrase with narrow matching put brackets around it like this:
[keyword phrase]
3. Advertise in Other Countries
North America is an excellent geographical target area for many campaigns, but it also very much more competitive to get traffic when compared to other regions. Try targeting a few other countries that may be interested in your product or service. I can think of one particular campaign where I simply cannot get North American traffic for under $0.05 per click, yet I still get loads of traffic from parts of Europe for $0.01 per click.
4. Use a Keyword Research Tool
If you spend a considerable amount on pay-per-click advertising you should really be using a professional keyword research tool. A good keyword tool like Keyword Elite will enable you to quickly research good keyword phrases that have less competition.
And less competition means you will pay less for your traffic if you bid on those keywords.

Did you know that Forbes magazine has reported that pay per click ad sales are expected to increase to at least an astounding $8 billion by the year 2008? Pay per click though still unfamiliar to many, will be around for a very long time. One of the search engine giants to capture a lion's share of this market is Google through its Google Adwords service. A few ebooks like Google Cash and The Definitive Guide To Google AdWords provide basic and advance knowledge on releasing the incredible power of pay per click campaigns especially as this applies to businesses and affiliates around the world. Big businesses are still the largest group to benefit from incorporating pay per click in their advertising budgets but, home-based businesses and affiliate program promoters can benefit too if they understand how to use this tool.
Pay per click search engines provide a way for you to basically buy your way to the top of search results for any keyword you wish. Pay per click advertising works thru a bidding process, and your ads appear in the results pages of search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves. Now that you've done your research and you've collected your keywords and/or keyword phrases, you'll need to open an Adwords account.
1. To do this go to https://adwords.google.com/. There is a one time sign up fee of $5 and your username and password are emailed to you.
2. Now you can log into the system and select "create a new campaign". Give your campaign a name that will also allow you to create multiple campaigns.
3. Before creating your first ad, I recommend that you print out Google's set of guidelines, ebooks such as Google Cash cover this area as well. Since most of you are probably promoting affiliate programs, it's important that you notify Google of this by simply adding "aff" at the end of your ad text.
A few tips to keep in mind:
a. To keep your ad targeted, make sure your keyword or keyword phrase is in the headline.
b. Put your keyword or keyword phrase in the text of your ad.
c. In promoting your affiliate program, make sure you're linked directly to the owner's website thru your affiliate link so that you'll get the credit and the cash!
Now you can submit your ad and start tracking your campaign over the next few days. If you're not happy with your ad's performance you can make changes such as targeting other keywords or increasing your bid a little at a time. Adwords is flexible in allowing you to make changes within Google guidelines of course, to make your ad campaigns successful.

Pay per click search engines provide a way for you to basically buy your way to the top of search results for any keyword you wish. Pay per click advertising works thru a bidding process, and your ads appear in the results pages of search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves. With Google Adwords you bid on the keywords you want to focus your ad on. For example if someone were searching on "gourmet coffee", if you're the highest bidder for "gourmet coffee" you receive top placement for that phrase and depending on the search engine, the top 3-5 bidders for that phrase also receive placement on the first page of unpaid search results.
With Google Adwords the "ad campaign" is everything. When you sign up with Google Adwords you have unlimited campaigns at your disposal. I enjoy promoting affiliate programs and in the past I spent a lot of time deciding which keywords I would bid on to attract buyers to my affiliate programs. The only tool I use right now is Ad Word Analyzer which saves tremendously on time and gives me an overview of my keyword and/or keyword phrase as it was searched on the top two pay per click search engines Google and Overture ( now called Yahoo Search Marketing ).
Now that you've done your research and you've collected your keywords and/or keyword phrases, you'll need to open an Adwords account.
1. To do this go to https://adwords.google.com/. There is a one time sign up fee of $5 and your username and password are emailed to you.
2. Now you can log into the system and select "create a new campaign". Give your campaign a name that will also allow you to create multiple campaigns.
3. Before creating your first ad, I recommend that you print out Google's set of guidelines, ebooks such as Google Cash cover this area as well. Since most of you are probably promoting affiliate programs, it's important that you notify Google of this by simply adding "aff" at the end of your ad text.
A few tips to keep in mind:
a. To keep your ad targeted, make sure your keyword or keyword phrase is in the headline.
b. Put your keyword or keyword phrase in the text of your ad.
c. In promoting your affiliate program, make sure you're linked directly to the owner's website thru your affiliate link so that you'll get the credit and the cash!
Now you can submit your ad and start tracking your campaign over the next few days. If you're not happy with your ad's performance you can make changes such as targeting other keywords or increasing your bid a little at a time. Adwords is flexible in allowing you to make changes within Google guidelines of course, to make your ad campaigns successful.

How To Target Your Adwords Niche
It’s a mistake many Adsense rookies make: the site’s keyword-optimised and attracting exactly the ads they want, but the clicks are low. So they up their Adwords budget and drive lots of traffic to the site, but the revenue per click is always less than the cost per click Adwords is charging.
It’s caused by using the same keywords for your Adword ads that you use in the site to attract ads. It sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people get their fingers burnt in their first month of Adsense. Essentially, if your keyword lists are the same, you’re competing with the people you rely on for revenue. In that situation, you can never win.
The ‘big boys’ have all the best keywords sewn up – that’s exactly why you used those keywords in your site content!
The secret to using Adwords successfully for the small profiteer is that magic word again – niche. Not just for your site content, but for your target audience. You have to find that small percentage of search engine users who don’t type in the obvious words. Target your ads at them and use your site to channel them towards the big payers – the advertisers on your site.
We had a scenario recently where a group of students had set up an advice site (http://www.thedebtfreestudent.co.uk/) and were hoping to attract ads to at least pay the hosting costs, maybe make a little profit on the side.
There content was keyword-rich and the site full of relevant ads. Problem was, their Adwords were costing as much as £2.30 a click! After a few weeks, their losses were growing.
As we pointed out, the > 90% of people who wanted the information their site offered (and would therefore be interested in the ads on their site) were not likely to find their ads unless they were outbidding the main players to get a higher Adwords placement. Once that happened, they were bound to be in a negative cash flow.
Once we’d deleted the costly keywords, we were left with very few. But a bit of lateral thinking – thinking like that 2 - 5% of people who don’t type in the obvious keywords – produced a list of 40 keywords and phrase variations that were precisely targeted towards their niche audience.
We introduced these keywords in batches, watching their performance and deleting those that were not attracting visitors.
In most cases, their ad was the only one shown. The ad was not relevant to 95% of the searchers, but, therefore, anyone who was attracted to the ad had been sufficiently intrigued by it to temporarily divert away from their initial search. In other words, every visitor to their site was genuinely interested in what they had to offer. The other 95% don’t matter – you’re not being charged to display your ad to them.
Of course, they were no longer getting the same volume of traffic to their site, but the CPC of their ads was as little as 5p and no greater than 10p and their site ads CTR was five times higher than before.
It’s surprising which keyword searches generate visits to your site. But that’s the point about this approach – if they were obvious, everyone (big boys included) would be using them.
There’s a down side to this approach, in that Google pride themselves on relevancy, downgrading ads that don’t get a large percentage of hits, but if your ad is the only one shown, you cant’ get demoted anyway.
Small users have to find and target their own small percentage of the market; to take a small slice of a big pie, without going head to head with their own revenue providers.
In the financial and gambling worlds it’s known as arbitrage ie a transaction that involves no negative cash flow in any case and a positive cash flow in at least one.
The maths is simple: If each click to your site costs you C and X% of those visitors click on your ads, each producing a revenue of R, then your arbitrage is C/X. As time goes on, your average values for C and R will settle down and X (your CTR will hopefully improve).
But the golden rule is: set your max bid as your arbitrage ie C/X. This way you’re not making a loss. If you’re not making a profit either, then this niche is probably one that you want to discard.
You’ll probably never see an ad for http://www.thedebtfreestudent.co.uk, not if you’re searching on the main keywords. But enough people do, and those people generate enough revenue to keep their site going.
Follow the rules above, keep it small and simple in the beginning and your site WILL start to turn a profit.

How To Write Google Adwords Ads That Get Clicks
A typical AdWords newbie is often guilty of several profit-squashing mistakes when setting up his first campaign. There are dozens of no-nos, but perhaps none so egregious as writing ineffective ads.
An effective AdWords ad is one that gets lots of clicks — that's the only thing you should be concerned about when writing your ads (except, of course, Google’s editorial policy). If you’ve done your keyword research, you’ll get impressions; if you’ve got a page that converts to sales, you’ll get a return on your investment. But getting people to your landing page is the ad’s job, and there are some things you can do to pump up your clickthrough rate (CTR), which will improve your ads' positioning and lower your click costs.
First, some ad basics. Each AdWords ad comprises four lines of text: the first is the headline, which can contain up to 25 characters including spaces; the next two are the ad copy, 35 characters each; and the last is your display URL, also 35 characters. (There is actually a fifth line — the destination URL — but that won't display with your ad and shouldn't affect your CTRs). Obviously, the headline is most important, because it’s usually the first thing a searcher sees. If you can make your headline jump out from the rest, your ad will be more visible. Fortunately, Google makes this pretty easy.
You may have noticed that, when searching on Google, your search query is bolded when it appears in any of the search results. The same thing goes for sponsored search results: if you include the keywords you’re bidding on in your ad text, specifically the headline, your ad will stand out.
But what if you’ve got hundreds or thousands of keywords? You can’t be expected to write a different ad for each keyword, right? Of course not — and you don’t have to. In AdWords, your keywords can be separated into groups, aptly dubbed "ad groups." Each ad group should contain a set of keywords and phrases that all have a common thread. For example, if you’re bidding on the term “widgets,” you should place each phrase containing that term into one ad group. You then write an ad whose title contains the word “widgets” — for example, “Get Your Widgets Here.” You can even repeat this for terms within ad groups. For example, in your “widgets” group, you might have the terms “red widgets” and “green widgets.” You can take these out and place each in its own ad group, along with any other similar phrases. Then your ads will be even more focused — for example, “Get Red Widgets Here.” The more keywords that appear in your ad, the more relevant your ad becomes.
Chris McNeeney, author of "AdWords Miracle," has some great copywriting tips. Chris used to write classified ads for a living, and his mastery of the art is evident in the techniques he outlines in his book. For example, he talks about a method called "stop them in their tracks." To stop potential customers in their tracks, you've got to come up with ad copy that tells customers to do the opposite of what they're trying to do. In keeping with the widgets theme, you could write an ad whose headline says, "Don't Buy Any Widgets!" Follow that up with some relevant ad text that entices people to buy your widgets rather than someone else's, by including the benefits your widgets offer; e.g., "Check out ours first. Better, cheaper, and guaranteed." This kind of ad will get people's attention right away, and getting their attention is all you need to do.
And now, an experiment. Pretend you want to buy something online. Head over to Google and do a search for whatever it is. See the sponsored links? Look at the headlines. Which one jumps out at you first? I’m betting it’s the one that seemed most relevant to your search because it contained the exact information you searched for. What’s the headline look like? I bet at least one of the words is bolded (if not all of them), and I’ll bet the rest of the ad lets you know exactly what you’ll get when you click on it. This is the best way to figure out how to write ads. Put yourself in the place of your target market, and then actually do some searches and check out the ads. Which one makes you want to click? Google AdWords Strategies
I was driving down the street the other day and saw a billboard. A big billboard. One so big it practically eclipsed the sun! It advertised a sunny vacation destination and as I gazed at that picture I was momentarily whisked away in my mind to a beach with lapping waves.
Then I had to laugh because almost directly after that billboard came a small one. Not just smaller… tiny. I don’t remember what it advertised but the disparity between the two heightened the importance of the vacation and minimized (in my mind, at least) the message of the second.
It made me think of the internet and internet marketing. The Internet is the “great leveler” in that it allows each business – large or small – to potentially reach the purchasing public in the same way. Theoretically the small “mom-and-pop shop” and a giant, multinational corporation has the same amount of real estate, your computer screen, to make their pitch. If you’re closer to the mom-and-pop shop than you are to the multinational corporation, here are some ideas to help you get your name out there. After all, no matter what size of start you have, it’s only one sale after another that will keep you in business!
Google AdWords are a great way to do that, for the same reason: Your one-man-show (or, one-woman-show!) has the same amount of AdWord space as meganational corporations like GE or GM.
These popular ads are 4 lines long. The top line is the title, there are two middle lines, and the fourth line is the URL. Every single add is the same. Unfortunately, too many businesses use the same-old approach when writing AdWords ads.
Here are some great ideas to help you AdWords fly off the screen and shake your prospects by the shoulders and say “hey, go to this site!”
Title Line Ask a question in your Title line and don’t answer it in the middle two lines. Instead, simply entice your prospect to visit your site for more information. (For example, “Do you want to earn more money without working harder?”)
Remember the AIDA principle (Attention, Interest, Decision, Action) and get your prospect’s attention with the title). Be shocking, outrageous, and catchy.
Body text Write down what you want to say, then work on shortening it. Don’t try shortening your ad first. Don’t waste words. Each word is precious. Be sure to use power words and short, readable sentences. Write several ideas down and have a few friends pick their favorite.

Then I had to laugh because almost directly after that billboard came a small one. Not just smaller… tiny. I don’t remember what it advertised but the disparity between the two heightened the importance of the vacation and minimized (in my mind, at least) the message of the second.
It made me think of the internet and internet marketing. The Internet is the “great leveler” in that it allows each business – large or small – to potentially reach the purchasing public in the same way. Theoretically the small “mom-and-pop shop” and a giant, multinational corporation has the same amount of real estate, your computer screen, to make their pitch. If you’re closer to the mom-and-pop shop than you are to the multinational corporation, here are some ideas to help you get your name out there. After all, no matter what size of start you have, it’s only one sale after another that will keep you in business!
Google AdWords are a great way to do that, for the same reason: Your one-man-show (or, one-woman-show!) has the same amount of AdWord space as meganational corporations like GE or GM.
These popular ads are 4 lines long. The top line is the title, there are two middle lines, and the fourth line is the URL. Every single add is the same. Unfortunately, too many businesses use the same-old approach when writing AdWords ads.
Here are some great ideas to help you AdWords fly off the screen and shake your prospects by the shoulders and say “hey, go to this site!”
Title Line Ask a question in your Title line and don’t answer it in the middle two lines. Instead, simply entice your prospect to visit your site for more information. (For example, “Do you want to earn more money without working harder?”)
Remember the AIDA principle (Attention, Interest, Decision, Action) and get your prospect’s attention with the title). Be shocking, outrageous, and catchy.
Body text Write down what you want to say, then work on shortening it. Don’t try shortening your ad first. Don’t waste words. Each word is precious. Be sure to use power words and short, readable sentences. Write several ideas down and have a few friends pick their favorite.

Get Free Adwords Credit, and 9 Tips You Were Never Told
Someone in a forum asked me the other day for some quick tips on Google Adwords. I have been quite successful with Adwords, and so my post got longer and longer as I thought of things, and each one seemed more important than the last-It occurred to at that point that this would make a pretty useful article, as it’s something lots of people participate in, and I don’t feel that many people get as much out of it as they should do! I think it’s a pity because in the work at home and home business arenas, some decent Adwords skills can make a huge amount of difference to your online money making! With that in mind, here are my 10 Adwords Tips You Were Never Told!
10- Trust your own conversion rates-Nobody else’s. This relates particularly well to those of you that are affiliate marketers. When you are considering what items to promote, only use other people’s conversion figures if they can physically prove them to you. I once agreed to sign on as an affiliate for a contact I had made through eBay-He seemed very professional, I liked his site and his product, and he assured me that the site converted around 5% of visitors into sales. I liked the sound of that, as I already had a few low priced keywords in mind that would bring in some good traffic. So I signed up. One month later, I had directed over a thousand clicks to his site, and there had not been a single sale. I got it verified by Clickbank too, so I know it was pretty accurate. Needless to say, our partnership ground to a halt.
9-Keep an eye on the budget-especially until the campaign takes off and becomes profitable. This seems really obvious, but those clicks really do add up fast. It’s really easy to let them get out of hand as we find ourselves pushing it up that extra couple of bucks here and there in the hope of picking up stray clicks at the end of the day. Before we know it, our 4 or 5 dollars a day is 12 or 13, and by the end of the month we owe Google a grand. That’s great if you are making good money from all those clicks, but from reading the forums I gather that this mostly happens to people that are just starting out and struggling to get into profit.
8-Don’t listen to Google. Let them show you how to use the site and get your account set up, but for advice on actual campaigns and ads, look elsewhere. The reason? Google are a business. It’s in their interest for you to pay more for your clicks, and to raise your budget accordingly. There are plenty of free resources on the net for Adwords, like this article for example, so search around for things like this and any free ebooks you can find on the subject. If you want advice, get it from people that aren’t going to be profiting directly from your mistakes.
7-Quantity and quality-Spend time researching your keywords. The more time you spend, the less money you spend, and your click through rate will likely be better too. Lots of Adwords campaigns are run by people sitting behind little desks in big offices, beavering away for a tiny salary and a company car. Campaigns are literally a job for these people, and the success or cost of the campaign is of no relevance because it all comes straight from the company funds. People like this are the reason that you can bid $25 on the words “Credit Card” on some PPC schemes and still not get top placing. People like this are also the reason people like you and I can find thousands of cheap, closer matching keywords just by putting the time in. These guys run campaigns just by throwing money at them, and we can easily outperform them just by applying ourselves a little with the keyword research.
6-Match Test-Adwords lets you run multiple ads from the same keyword group simultaneously. This is a great tool if you put it to use properly. How? Simply by making each ad slightly different, and seeing which one pulls more clicks. Once you can see which one is more successful, tinker around with the wording on the less popular ad until it improves performance and pulls more clicks than the one that was initially leading. Do this constantly and before you know it you will have an ad which literally rips clicks off the page!
5-Have patience-When you make changes give them time to manifest themselves in your results. Only when you can see what effect a change has had should you make any more. If you don’t do things gradually like this you can quite easily mess a campaign up in a fashion that will take two or three days to get back on track.
4-Cheat-I don’t know if it’s ethical to say this, but I’m going to do it anyway- When you are starting an Adwords account, go to eBay first and buy some free Adwords credit. You can buy $30 of credit to an Adwords account for pennies from certain eBay sellers. That certainly makes your first few campaigns a little less stressful. Not ethical I know, but I’m sure Google will get plenty of money from you once you get the hang of the system. Here’s hoping they don’t sue me lol.
3-Don’t forget about other PPC schemes- You won’t get the traffic you would from Google, but you will get much cheaper high quality keywords, so it balances out really. I prefer Google myself because your writing skill plays as big a part as your wallet-your ad will appear closer to the top of the screen if it is popular with the customers. That means if your ad is effective and gets more clicks than the other bidders, you will be able to pay less than the other guys that have bid on that word.
2-Make Your Ads Specific- You can weed out a lot of non-qualified browsers by stating important facts in the ad copy- people that would have cost you money from the click and not bought anyway. For example an ad which simply states “House for Sale” would get clicks from all kinds of people looking for houses, but if it were to say “Two Bedroom House for sale” you would be naturally cutting out the customers which were looking for four bedroom houses, apartments etc, as they can see straight away that you do not have what they are seeking. This reduction is good because it would help keep our costs low due to unnecessary clicks.
1- Be Relentless- It’s easy to think you have made it in Adwords, and equally easy to become really disillusioned when you do not see results straight away. Just keep the faith- It’s science, not art, and as such can be learned. Stick with it and you will soon see profit, and once you are in profit it is just a case of maintaining that balance while you raise the budgets and increase your exposures!

Patience in building a strong ad group before you expand will benefit you and your bottom line.

Write ad text that will appeal to your audience and bring in the traffic you want. If your products appeal to hobbiests, use terms that hobbiests would understand. If your products are directed mainly at younger customers, use youthful verbage and terms that will draw their attention.
You only have your ad text to convince the "right" customers to visit your website. Make those words count by making sure that you target the message toward them.

There is a fine line between writing ads that appeal to customers enough to get a high click-through rate and writing ads that merely draw anyone. You want to have a high click through rate on your ads, since it will get you higher placement and save you money. You don't want to attract customers who won't ever becom customers though.
Use strong action words in your ads. Include powerful selling points and benefits. Try to stay away from phrases that will draw everyone though such as "free" and "bargain." Write an ad that will bring you viewers who have a good chance of becoming customers too.

Finding Keywords - For Adwords Publishers
If you advertise with adwords you have probably realised that with recent changes to their system, the crowd at google have made it very difficult to maintain a profitable adwords campaign. This applies to those promoting other peoples products or their own.
The way I used to create a keyword list for my campaigns was to use the adwords sandbox to enter a bunch of keywords that were relevant to my market and just add whatever words it spat out at me.
It took me a while but I realized eventually that this wasn’t the best way to go about it. Many of my keywords would become inactive and the ones that remained were ranked 17.2 and not seeing a lot of action at all.
It annoyed me because as you probably know, on the adwords traffic estimate screen you always seem to get a number of clicks that excites you but when you actually put up the campaign the results you see are much different. Also I was always limited by the number of related keywords I could think up in my own head. I knew about the power of ‘backdoor’ keywords but couldn’t think up enough of them up to create a profitable campaign!
The point it changed is when I found a piece of software that could I could use to see the bid results for large numbers of keywords at once so I could tell immediately which keywords were going to be the most profitable to use in my campaigns and which ones I shouldn’t bother with.
Not only that but this same piece of software will actually find for me the backdoor keywords that are generally less competitive and super valuable for an adwords advertiser.
With this software I first find a market and a product I want to promote then find a website about this product… I then insert this URL into the software and it will scan all the words on the page and use certain technologies to tell me all other keywords related to that keyword that I would never have thought of!
The result? More keywords, more backdoor and hence more profitable keywords and a lower cost, potentially higher conversion ad campaign!

Make Big Profits From AdWords PPC Campaigns
Everyone wants to make $300 a day or more with their AdWords campaigns. You've started a few campaigns, spent a few dollars, and now you're wondering - "where's the payoff!"
There's no secret to AdWords success. Like anything, joining the big leagues of AdWords profits means you must put in the hours. In this case, it's hours of keyword work.
Extensive Keyword Research
There are literally thousands of keywords for every industry. By advertising a thousand or more keywords you will greatly increase your chance of getting clicks at a cheaper rate.
Consider this:
Campaign A: Your AdWords campaign has only 4 keywords. These keywords are the most popular keywords for your industry. The average CPC is $1. These keywords get 6000 searches a day. Your campaign is getting a 2% CTR which means your getting $120 clicks at a total cost of $120.

Increase Quality Or Bid 5 Dollar To Activate
If you’ve ever done a Google Adwords campaign, you might have come across this message for one of your keyword which reads “Increase quality or bid $5.00 to activate.”
First, let’s look at the reason for this. When Google looks at any placement, it looks at relevancy (perceived relevancy in this case) as discussed in previous Marketing Insight ezines. The reason you have gotten this message is that Google feels that your ad does not relate to the keyword - so it de-activates that keyword. What this message is also saying is that, if you don’t know how to use Google Adwords, you should be paying 5 times more than necessary. So what do you do?
WHAT NOT TO DO:
Google make fortunes from people who are so desperate to have their ad shown on that keyword that they agree to the given price. That is a huge mistake and will cost you big. Imagine your lead cost going up by 5 times for that keyword!
Here are two better options for you:
1.) Remove the keyword from that campaign and place it into another ad group that is more relevant or create an ad group campaign that has the keyword in the headline. This is what you should have done from the beginning - group related keywords together so they make sense.
Here are some examples:
• GROUPING THE WRONG WAY – keywords like Home Business, Earn Money, Online Business, Make Money Fast with an ad that reads “Make $20,000/mo From Home”. The problem is, even though the ad might be good, the keywords are too different and do not match the ad, therefore your ad is being de-activated.

Top 12 Tips To Writing AdWords Ads
In this article I show you my top twelve tips for creating effective Google AdWords ads.
I've been testing the Google pay per click advertising system for a while, with much success. These tips will help you create ads that generate higher click through rates, and lower cost per click.
1. Target The Right Audience
Target the right audience by selecting the language and countries that you want to target. For example, I exclude all countries where English is not understood by a large percentage of the population.
2. Refine Your Keywords
Use square brackets "[...]" around your keyword/s.
For example:
[google]
[google adwords]
Your ad will only show when the search is for the exact keyword phrase you have included within the brackets.
The ad will not show for searches that include other keywords. In our example, this would be for searches such as "google search," or "google news."
3. Test Multiple Ads Simultaneously
Always test 2 (or more) ads simultaneously. This is what is known in the print industry as an A/B split test.
Find out which one produces the higher click through ratio. Then replace the weaker performing ad with a new one.
Continue this process in your never-ending quest to get the highest click through ratio possible.
4. Track The Return-On-Investment Of Each Ad
Google tracks the click through ratio of each ad. But it doesn't track the conversion ratio.
Use a special tracking link in each ad to track its conversion ratio. For example, you could attach each ad with an affiliate tracking system link. Make sure each ad produces a return-on-investment.
5. Include Targeted Keywords In Your Ad
Include the targeted keywords in the headline and the description of the ad. Google will highlight searched keywords in bold in the ad.
When people scan search results, they look for the keywords they have entered. Searched keywords highlighted in bold certainly help to catch the user's attention. For this reason, ads with searched keywords usually perform better than ones without.
6. Sell The Benefits
Spell out one or more major benefit in your ad. For example, make more money, stay younger looking, lose weight, get healthier, live happier, etc.
7. Include Attention Grabbing Words In Your Ad
Start your headline with an attention grabbing word. For example, "Free:, New:, Sale:, etc." Make sure you stay within Google's editorial guidelines.
8. Use Words That Provoke Emotion & Enthusiasm
Use power words or call-to-action phrases that provoke emotion, enthusiasm and a response.
Here are some examples of power words:
free, cheap, sale, special offer, time limited offer, tricks, you, tips, enhance, discover, fact, learn, at last, free shipping, etc.
Here are some examples of call-to-action phrases:

Make sure the phrase specific to your business, otherwise Google may reject the phrase.
9. Sell Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
What makes your product or service better, or different, from the competition? Spell them out in your ad.
For example, one of Amazon.com's first taglines was "Earth's Biggest Bookstore." That's a powerful USP!
10. Link To Relevant Landing Pages
If an ad is for a specific product or service, create a landing page for the ad. Include relevant and useful information to convert the customer. Generally, a well designed landing page will almost always convert more visitors than if you simply sent the visitor to the home page.
11. Remove Common Words
Remove common words, such as "a, an, in, on, it, of, etc." Remove every word that does not absolutely need to be in the ad. Make every word count.
12. Deter Freebie Hunters
Deter freebie hunters by including the price of the product or service at the end of the ad. This will improve your overall conversion ratio and lower your average customer acquisition cost.
This may reduce your click through ratio, but that's OK. After all, you're not trying to target every body, only potential customers. In most cases, freebie hunters will never become paying customers.

Keywords are the cornerstone of the successful affiliate marketer. Having the right keywords can have a huge impact on your bottom line.
Most Affiliates will Copy and Paste a large list of keywords into an adgroup or campaign and then wait for sales to come in.
Preparation is what separates successful affiliates from the rest. Yes, research a huge number of keywords, but then take the time to carefully organize them into related groups. This is particularly important for Google Adwords. Once you have 50 or so groups of 10-20 keywords, then write out relevant ads that are specific to each keyword set. You will better appeal to your target market and consequently improve your CTR (Clickthru Rate). The Click thru rate is HIGHLY important on Google Adwords. The higher the liklihood that someone clicks on your ad, instead of your competitors, the lower you will pay per click - and the more traffic you will receive. An ingenoius element of Google Adwords ensuring those who Prepare - Will Pay less, and those who take the easy route - pay more.
Keyword Tools
There are some great keyword research tools for finding massive keyword lists. Plug these lists into Google and Yahoo. You can add up to 2000 keywords per adgroup into Google.
Examples of keyword research tools are: 1. Keyword Elite 2. Adwords Analyzer 3. Overture Search Suggestion 4. Googles Sandbox 5. Wordtracker
Examples of Keyword variation generators are:
1. Keyword Toolbox 2. GoodKeywords
Ultimately you will have to produce several thousand keywords to operate successfully. The free keyword tools are fine for small lists but they do not produce more than a hundred keywords. For this reason you will have to purchase a specialized keyword generator like Keyword Elite or Wordtracker. Wordtracker is the ultimate and you pay a monthly fee. Keyword Elite is a one time payment and it offers several invaluable programs in one. Both can produce thousands of keywords in a very short time.
Now, once you have 5000 or so keywords here's what to do:
* Organize the keywords into related groups * Write different ads for each group * Upload to Google and Yahoo
With Google you can have up to 100 Adgroups per Campaign and up to 25 Active Campaigns. The more related the keywords in each adgroup, the more traffic Googles system will send you. This is a fact. A small number of tightly related keywords in each adgrouop will enable the Adwords system to determine the precise relevancy of your ads and send you as much traffic as possible. Adgroups with hundreds of "barely related" keywords is confusing to the system and results in minimal traffic. With Yahoo be sure to take advantage of the Bulk Keyword submission template and submit up to 5000 keywords at a time. Keyword Variations
Use the Overture Search suggestion tool to research related terms.
Once you have a list of keywords, lets take it a huge step further and add a few less common variations.
Consider different endings:

Add new beginnings:
* How to repair * How do I repair * Need to fix * Looking for repair
Use Exact and Phrase Match (Google):
* "repair PC errors" [repair PC error]
Add plurals:
* repair * repairs * PC * PCs
Common Misspellings can be a goldmine:
* repare my PC * How to Sped up computer * Spped up computor
Phrase substitution:
If you have a list of keywords with one keyword in common, try substituting for a synonym - so for
* repair pc * fix pc * fix pc error * help speed up pc * pc freezes
Replace PC with, computer, laptop, computers, hardrive, windows etc..
Geographic keywords
If you are advertising a product that appeals to different geographic areas try adding City, State/Province, County and even country to your keyword phrases:
* Dallas computer repair * arkansas fix pc etc..
(it will help to have a complete list of all the states, counties to use whenever you need them)
Consider using dates, years, model numbers, file names, reg key locations etc:
* repair 2002 pc * fix error 2345 * check error 123 * reg key error.exe
Research keyword variations that are specific to your niche:
* system32 error * runtime errors * not responding etc..
Consider merging keywords, adding hyphens, or adding .com:

Don't forget negative keywords
By adding negative keywords to you adgroups on Google you are assuring that your ad doesn't appear for irrelevant searches
For example Our Registrey Cleaner and optimization software, Regcure, would be of little interest to someone looking up typing errors, wedding registry, do not call registry etc. To add these as negative simple put a - (minus) sign in front of the keyword or keyword phrase as below:

What should I set my Google Campaign Budget to?
Be sure to use this feature to ensure that you don't spend any more than you can afford. Once you have tweaked and tuned your campaign so that it consistently earns you profits, you may want to consider increasing your budget to see if you can increase the traffic that they send you. The maximum campaign budget is 250,000 per day. I haven't seen any proof that you need to set your maximum this high, but if you are a super-affiliate it wouldn't hurt, as your traffic is maximized!
What can I potentially earn if I follow all your advise and become a super affiliate?
Top affiliates earn thousands of dollars per day. Actually the best affiliates earn thousands of dollars per day on each product. Top Regcure affiliates earn revenues of $3000 to $4000 per day on just this one product. This is a fact - if you are truly motivated to earn this kind of money - then look no further. Don't waste time testing umpteen products to find the one in a thousand holy grail - its right here!
Do I really need to track conversions and take the time to figure this out?
Yes. Its very simple to do on both Google and Yahoo. Simply follow their instructions to set them up and then email us your tracking codes. We just need the numbers that look like this Google: 2365312646, Yahoo: 893475617

CTR is the percentage of people that click on your ad that have had it displayed on their screens. For example if you ad shows up 3400 times and 64 people clicked on it them your CTR is 1.88%
Should I diversify?
Many people will tell you yes diversify your efforts. We say once you have found a successful product, then concentrate on it for a few months until you have done absolutely everything you can to dominate your market, and then move on to testing others. I have never met a super affiliate that earns the bulk of their fortune or anything substantial on GoClick, Kanoodle or whatever. SuperAffiliates are Google Adwords Masters and Yahoo/Overture Experts. Concentrate on these 2 PayperClick Search Engines, Learn absolutely everything you can, everything that your competitors know about Google and Yahoo~ and more. I am not saying that you wont make profits on the smaller PPC SE, I am saying that by spending the same amount of time on the BIG 2, you will leverage your time and investment to earn a basket of dollars - not pennies! KeyWord Research and Preparation
Keywords are the cornerstone of the successful affiliate marketer. Having the right keywords can have a huge impact on your bottom line.
Most Affiliates will Copy and Paste a large list of keywords into an adgroup or campaign and then wait for sales to come in.
Preparation is what separates successful affiliates from the rest. Yes, research a huge number of keywords, but then take the time to carefully organize them into related groups. This is particularly important for Google Adwords. Once you have 50 or so groups of 10-20 keywords, then write out relevant ads that are specific to each keyword set. You will better appeal to your target market and consequently improve your CTR (Clickthru Rate). The Click thru rate is HIGHLY important on Google Adwords. The higher the liklihood that someone clicks on your ad, instead of your competitors, the lower you will pay per click - and the more traffic you will receive. An ingenoius element of Google Adwords ensuring those who Prepare - Will Pay less, and those who take the easy route - pay more.
Keyword Tools
There are some great keyword research tools for finding massive keyword lists. Plug these lists into Google and Yahoo. You can add up to 2000 keywords per adgroup into Google.
Examples of keyword research tools are: 1. Keyword Elite 2. Adwords Analyzer 3. Overture Search Suggestion 4. Googles Sandbox 5. Wordtracker
Examples of Keyword variation generators are:
1. Keyword Toolbox 2. GoodKeywords
Ultimately you will have to produce several thousand keywords to operate successfully. The free keyword tools are fine for small lists but they do not produce more than a hundred keywords. For this reason you will have to purchase a specialized keyword generator like Keyword Elite or Wordtracker. Wordtracker is the ultimate and you pay a monthly fee. Keyword Elite is a one time payment and it offers several invaluable programs in one. Both can produce thousands of keywords in a very short time.
Now, once you have 5000 or so keywords here's what to do:
* Organize the keywords into related groups * Write different ads for each group * Upload to Google and Yahoo
With Google you can have up to 100 Adgroups per Campaign and up to 25 Active Campaigns. The more related the keywords in each adgroup, the more traffic Googles system will send you. This is a fact. A small number of tightly related keywords in each adgrouop will enable the Adwords system to determine the precise relevancy of your ads and send you as much traffic as possible. Adgroups with hundreds of "barely related" keywords is confusing to the system and results in minimal traffic. With Yahoo be sure to take advantage of the Bulk Keyword submission template and submit up to 5000 keywords at a time. Keyword Variations
Use the Overture Search suggestion tool to research related terms.
Once you have a list of keywords, lets take it a huge step further and add a few less common variations.
Consider different endings:
* repair * repairing * repaired * repairs
Add new beginnings:
* How to repair * How do I repair * Need to fix * Looking for repair
Use Exact and Phrase Match (Google):
* "repair PC errors" [repair PC error]
Add plurals:
* repair * repairs * PC * PCs
Common Misspellings can be a goldmine:
* repare my PC * How to Sped up computer * Spped up computor
Phrase substitution:
If you have a list of keywords with one keyword in common, try substituting for a synonym - so for
* repair pc * fix pc * fix pc error * help speed up pc * pc freezes
Replace PC with, computer, laptop, computers, hardrive, windows etc..
Geographic keywords
If you are advertising a product that appeals to different geographic areas try adding City, State/Province, County and even country to your keyword phrases:
* Dallas computer repair * arkansas fix pc etc..
(it will help to have a complete list of all the states, counties to use whenever you need them)
Consider using dates, years, model numbers, file names, reg key locations etc:
* repair 2002 pc * fix error 2345 * check error 123 * reg key error.exe
Research keyword variations that are specific to your niche:
* system32 error * runtime errors * not responding etc..
Consider merging keywords, adding hyphens, or adding .com:
* fixerrors * repaircomputer * fix-error * repair-computer-problem * fixerrors.com * repair-pc.com
Don't forget negative keywords
By adding negative keywords to you adgroups on Google you are assuring that your ad doesn't appear for irrelevant searches
For example Our Registrey Cleaner and optimization software, Regcure, would be of little interest to someone looking up typing errors, wedding registry, do not call registry etc. To add these as negative simple put a - (minus) sign in front of the keyword or keyword phrase as below:
* fixerrors * repaircomputer * fix-error * repair-computer-problem * fixerrors.com * repair-pc.com * -typing * -do not call * -wedding
What should I set my Google Campaign Budget to?
Be sure to use this feature to ensure that you don't spend any more than you can afford. Once you have tweaked and tuned your campaign so that it consistently earns you profits, you may want to consider increasing your budget to see if you can increase the traffic that they send you. The maximum campaign budget is 250,000 per day. I haven't seen any proof that you need to set your maximum this high, but if you are a super-affiliate it wouldn't hurt, as your traffic is maximized!
What can I potentially earn if I follow all your advise and become a super affiliate?
Top affiliates earn thousands of dollars per day. Actually the best affiliates earn thousands of dollars per day on each product. Top Regcure affiliates earn revenues of $3000 to $4000 per day on just this one product. This is a fact - if you are truly motivated to earn this kind of money - then look no further. Don't waste time testing umpteen products to find the one in a thousand holy grail - its right here!
Do I really need to track conversions and take the time to figure this out?
Yes. Its very simple to do on both Google and Yahoo. Simply follow their instructions to set them up and then email us your tracking codes. We just need the numbers that look like this Google: 2365312646, Yahoo: 893475617
Once you send us your tracking codes we will enter them on our system, usually the same day, and you will be able to see results within your campaigns with 24 hours. I am confused by what Clickthru rates are.
CTR is the percentage of people that click on your ad that have had it displayed on their screens. For example if you ad shows up 3400 times and 64 people clicked on it them your CTR is 1.88%
Should I diversify?
Many people will tell you yes diversify your efforts. We say once you have found a successful product, then concentrate on it for a few months until you have done absolutely everything you can to dominate your market, and then move on to testing others. From experience you will need to test hundreds and spend thousands of dollars just to find "the one". Regcure is the one - and our top affiliates earning over $3000 per day is the proof. A good rule of thumb for super affiliates is to build a product until it earns you $1000+ per day and then look for your next niche to dominate!

What is Adsense, Adwords
AdWordsAdWords are small text-only ads that sometimes appear on the
right hand side of Google's search results page when you do
a search.
They are extraordinarily powerful - MUCH more so than you'd
think at first sight - for 5 reasons.
1. They are 100% targeted: the advertiser chooses which
keywords have to be entered before their ad is shown.
This means that you can make your ad appear ONLY in front
of people ACTIVELY LOOKING for information about a topic.
You sell binoculars? Then you can set up your AdWords ads
so that they show up ONLY when someone enters "Binoculars"
into Google's search box.
You can also restrict your ad coverage to specific countries.
2. You only pay for click thrus. If no one clicks on your ad
you don't pay anything but...
3. Google penalises ads that don't work well because it wants
only ads that are RELEVANT to the viewer to be seen. Poorly
performing ads get disabled automatically. This protects
Google's brand from being sullied by irrelevant ads.
4. Google lets advertisers rotate different ads for the same
keywords and AUTOMATICALLY shows the most effective ad more
often. Thus there is an in-built survival of the fittest
process going on where fitness is judged by real consumers
voting in real time.
If they click, your ad stays. If they don't, it doesn't.
Evolution can be extremely brutal - and fast!
5. Google gives advertisers incredibly detailed near real-time
response data so you can monitor and adjust your ad without
wasting much money.
AdSenseSo where does AdSense come in this?
Well, Google has taken their excellent AdWords program and
extended it to non-Google web sites and branded it AdSense.
Key distinction
However, AdSense differs from AdWords in that Google, instead
of looking at the search terms entered into its search box
to determine what ads to show, looks at what keywords would
be relevant to the web site the ads are to go on.
Example:
If you have a site rich in content about binoculars, AdSense
technology determines that it would be an appropriate site to
post AdWord ads about binoculars on. (Google uses its existing
page ranking technology to assess a site's content.)
This AdSense technology is called "content-targeting".
How you make money with AdSense
The process is simple.
You sign up for AdSense and if your site is accepted,
(we'll cover this process later in the course) Google
gives you some code to paste into your web pages. It's
JavaScript stuff that you can simply add into the HTML
of your page.
When someone views your page this JavaScript fetches ads from
Google. If they then CLICK on your ad, Google charges the
advertiser a click thru fee and shares it with you.
This is entirely AUTOMATIC so if you have a content rich site
with lots of traffic that is not currently making you any money,
AdSense is something you should seriously consider.
Now maximising this process is much harder and it raises what
I call the content dilemma which we'll explore later too:
Is your site designed to earn AdSense revenue or
is its main objective something else?
